A suspect is on the loose after a late-night shooting outside a liquor store in Westchester.

The incident occurred at around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, in th3 the area of 295 Warburton Avenue in Yonkers.

Upon arrival, officers located a crime scene, began canvassing the vicinity and cordoned off the area and initiated a criminal investigation, said Yonkers PD Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit also responded to the scene, interviewing subjects and witnesses, reviewing surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence.

Preliminary investigation has yielded that the victim, a 24-year-old resident of Warburton Avenue, was standing in front of the liquor store at 325 Warburton Ave. with a group of people, Politopoulos said.

A suspect approached on foot and displayed a handgun, firing several shots in the direction of the victim, striking him at least two times, Politopoulos said. The suspect then fled the area on foot, and the victim was transported by a private vehicle to the hospital with apparent gunshot wounds to his arm and chest.

The victim was transferred to a local area trauma center where is currently listed in stable but serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe that the victim and suspect were known to each other and the shooting was not a random event.

Surveillance video has been recovered and detectives are developing information to identify the suspect and effect an arrest.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Yonkers Police Detective Division at (914) 377-7724. All calls will remain confidential.
