MAMARONECK, N.Y. Renata Maria Cesaretti Amoruso, a former longtime resident of Mamaroneck, died Aug. 26 at Colony Ridge Nursing Home in Nags Head, N.C. She was 88.
Amoruso was born June 14, 1924, in San Marino, Italy to Antonietta Franciosi and Carlo Cesaretti. Her family immigrated to the U.S. in March of 1929 and she grew up in Mount Vernon, graduating from Edison Vocational Technical High School in 1941.
She married John J. Amoruso Sr. on April 8, 1944. They moved to Mamaroneck in 1954 and lived there for more than 50 years. Amoruso worked as a secretary for the Rye Neck School District for more than 14 years and was a devout parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
An active member of the Columbiettes, Amoruso loved to crochet and bake in her spare time.
She is survived by six children, John (Suzanne), of Hawthorne, Frank (Dona), of Henderson, Nev., Anthony (Fran), of Charlotte, N.C., Carla (Ileana), of Albuquerque, N.M., Michael, of Pleasantville and Thomas (Dawn), of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John; two grandsons, James and Peter; and a sister, Anna Ceretta.
Calling hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hawthorne Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, N.Y.
