MAMARONECK, N. Y. -- Barbara Curtis Reed, a longtime resident of Mamaroneck, died Oct. 11. She was 97.

Born Sept. 16, 1918, in Everett, Mass., she was the daughter of Robert E. Reed and Mary Agnes Donovan Reed.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Reed Johnson and Sr. Helen Reed SSND (School Sisters of Notre Dame); and brother James Reed.

She is survived by Margaret's children -- six nieces and one nephew -- and their families.

Reed grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn College 75 years ago. With a strong interest in finance, Reed spent her career with AIG in the Wall Street area of Manhattan.

She spent her summers in Breezy Point, where her family owned a house. But she focused her time on her hometown, as a longtime parishioner of Mararoneck's Holy Trinity Parish and an active member of the Mamaroneck Women’s Club.

In addition to her local activities, she also was involved with the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and the Daughters of the American Revolution, New York chapter.

Contributions in her memory can be made to the New Rochelle Humane Society from which Barbara adopted many dogs and cats. Visit the humane society's website for more details.

A visitation is planned for 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. A funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Friday St. Vito's Catholic Church, Mamaroneck.

Interment will follow at Holy Mount Cemetery.
