Santa Claus Comes to Town, Surprises Birthday Boy

MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Rhys Davies was stunned when he walked into the Toy Box Saturday to find good old St. Nick ringing his Christmas bell, a surprise carefully orchestrated by his mother Sandra.

The Christmas surprise was also an early birthday surprise for Davies, 4, who sat on Santa's lap and asked for a fire engine. Santa replied: "I will check with the elves to see if we have any left, ok?" He returned to his mother with a bright smile and a green lollipop in hand.

Davies' grandparents accompanied them to the Toy Box while visiting from London, where his family moved from in October. They now live in Larchmont, but don't see much of a difference in how the two countries celebrate Christmas.

"It's all starting to get ramped up back home now, too," Sandra said. "It's still about the turkey, spending time with family, and things like this for the kids."

Unlike Sandra, other families had no idea Toy Box was hosting Santa Claus, but were happy to take a picture, like Nate, Jack and Max Perez of Mamaroneck.

In addition to Santa Claus, WFAS set up shop in Toy Box for a live broadcast Saturday. Toy Box is a regular sponsor for the Westchester FM station, which does a certain amount of remote broadcasts each year.
