MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- On Aug. 10 the Village of Mamaroneck Board unanimously voted to approve a resolution to create an Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to help guide the Marine Education Center at Harbor Island Park.
The goal is to form a group of citizens dedicated to creating programs and identifying partnerships, generate publicity and fundraising opportunities to support the center.
Earlier this summer, the Board voted to approve a $6,000 budget to keep the center operational through the 2015 season. In addition, in February 2015, the Marine Education Center program was incorporated into the Village's summer day camp with a dedicated counselor to provide access for camp attendees.
Founded by a joint effort of Katherine and Jim Desmond along with Sarah Evans, the Marine Education Center is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the summer. Labor Day weekend will be the close for the 2015 season.
IAnyone interested in joining the committee to help grow this three-year old facility in the Village of Mamaroneck is encouraged to contact the Board of Trustees or email imiller@vomny.org directly.
