MAMARONECK, N.Y. Residents concerned about recent crimes reported in the Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Larchmont can attend a Crime Prevention Workshop at the VFW and town Senior Center Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
The workshop, sponsored by the town and Garden Civic Association, was called in response to residents expressing concerns, including at the Feb. 1 town board meeting. Nancy Seligson, town supervisor, opened the meeting acknowledging a reported armed robbery on Glenn Road Jan. 17 at 10:20 p.m. She called it an isolated incident. A resident in attendance then took to the podium to mention the string of burglaries in Larchmont over the past few months, which has him asking what he and his neighbors can do.
Town residents are also expressing their concern on Facebook. Doreen Kringdon wrote: "My girlfriend's car was ransacked last night! They are also stealing bikes! Lock house and cars!" Cynthia McGinty wrote: "What's going on in this town lately?"
Larchmont Police Chief John Poleway, whose department is still investigating the reported burglaries, outlined simple safety tips at the Dec. 12 meeting of the Larchmont Board of Trustees.
- Lock the windows and doors of your homes and cars that are in the driveway.
- Do not leave valuables or electronic equipment in your car.
- Turn you alarms on overnight and during the day when the house is unoccupied.
- Make sure your alarm system is registered with the police department, as is mandated by village law.
Representatives of the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department will attend to answer questions. Additionally, Seligson and Stephen Altieri, town administrator, will be present.
