MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck native Chloe English and her college a cappella group The Deltones are still alive in NBC's "The Sing-Off" after Monday's elimination, which gave the axe to the Los Angeles-based group Sonos.
English, who is one of five alumni stepping in for current members not able to make the trip, graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 2007. This past May, she graduated from the University of Delaware, where the Deltones were founded 20 years ago.
The six remaining groups going into the show sang one radio hit and one classic 1960s tune. For the latter, the Deltones broke out a familiar tune in "You Can't Hurry Love," which appears on their 2010 album "Don't Let Out the Black and White Cat."
All three judges praised the group on style, but noted areas of "pitchiness" that need to be addressed.
For now, they are one of the five groups moving onto a bracket next episode, which airs Oct. 24. The first bracket consists of the same number of singing groups. It can be seen on NBC's "The Sing-Off" Oct. 17.
"The Sing-Off" airs Mondays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
