WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - The Mamaroneck Tigers cheer team participated in their first competition of the season at 63rd Westchester Cheerleading Invitational last Tuesday and brought home the events Spirit Award as well as a strong performance on the mats.
Tigers Captains Brendan Farrell, Victoria Vozza and Lindsay Soto were encouraged by the teams performance.
Things werent very well, especially because this was our first competition, Farrell said. We dont begin our workouts in the spring when school ends like many of the teams. We start in the fall, so were getting better and better. We really enjoyed being out here and getting an idea of how were doing.
The Tigers, who have two of the growing number of male cheerleaders in the local schools among a large group of team members, showed a series of stunts and lifts that were crowd pleasers.
We have to be right on with our routine because we have more people than some teams, Soto said. We work on our presentation and spend a lot of hours practicing.
The Tigers will compete next in a competition at St. Catharines (Bronx) next week. St. Catharines won the Class C division title Monday and the Grand Championship Tuesday.
Were definitely looking forward to more competitions, Farrell said. This was a good start for us.
