MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Voting officially closes Tuesday in the Food Network's contest to win a chance to appear on the network's Eat St., and Mamaroneck's own Chef Johnson finished with the third most votes.
The contest, which started accepting votes Jan. 5 and closes after Jan. 31, asked street vendors to submit a video showing why they should be featured in a segment on the show. The five videos with the highest number of votes won the Fan Favorite award and are now eligible to win the grand prize an Eat St. segment starring their cart.
Chef Johnson, with a some help from his son "Lil" Johnson Jr., received 3,125 votes and 14,023 views. They fell just a little short of Ontario, Canada's Gorilla Cheese (4,127 votes) and Alberta, Canada's Wescott Country Kitchen (3,305).
Now, the Johnsons have to wait and see if their Johnson Truck, which rolled into Mamaroneck last summer touting authentic Louisiana cuisine, will be selected as the grand prize winner. All five Fan Favorites will win a write-up on the Eat St. blog, including a biography, pictures and their video. All entrants will also be added to the Eat St. app.
