MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Charles Rudolph Cernek, a veteran and resident of Mamaroneck since 2006, died Oct. 25. He was 94.
Cernek was born on Aug. 30, 1917 in Palisades Park, N.J. to Martin and Christina Cernek. He went on to serve in the Army in the Pacific Theatre. Cernek received a Purple Heart for injuries he suffered while in the Philippines.
An expert marksman, Cernek was the council treasurer at Grace Lutheran Church in his hometown for many years and a member of Sokol.
After the death of his wife Margaret Lawlor, he moved to Mamaroneck to live with his surviving daughter, Kathleen Henk and her husband Pastor Marvin Henk. Cernek is also survived by two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Frederick, his brother Fred Cernek and his sister Anna Miklowsko.
Friends and family may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. John;s Lutheran Church in Mamaroneck. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
