Born in 1915 as Frances Fero, she was raised in Brooklyn with her three sisters by her parents, Morris and Elizabeth Fero.

Schweiger attended and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn. At the age of 15, she met Ralph Schweiger on the tennis courts at Betsy Head Park in Brooklyn and was immediately struck by how good looking he was. Ten years later, they married on April 6, 1940.

They raised two children, Jonathan and Judi, in Brooklyn. Jonathan died on Dec. 31, 2014.

Early in her marriage, Schweiger worked in a radio factory assembling parts. Later, she spent 22 years working as an administrative assistant in the SEEK (Search for Education and Knowledge) Program at Brooklyn College.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m., Schweiger will celebrate her birthday with her family in the Longue Vue Café at Andrus on Hudson.

Her family includes her daughter, Dr. Judi Levy, and son-in-law, Bruce Levy – both Hastings residents. She also has two grandchildren.

Schweiger moved from Brooklyn to Andrus on Hudson in 2003. Her sister, Molly Avrack, was also a resident of Andrus on Hudson until her death at the age of 101.

“Think for yourself but keep an open mind,” Schweiger said, as words of wisdom for the younger generations.
