The tragic events unfolded around 8:35 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot at a home on Florence Avenue in Rye. Upon arrival, officers found the young man in critical condition from an apparent gunshot wound, the City of Rye Police Department announced on Tuesday, June 3.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries while en route to White Plains Hospital, police said.
Following a thorough investigation and postmortem examination, the Westchester County Medical Examiner has officially determined the cause of death to be suicide.
Police did not release the identity of the victim.
In the wake of the incident, the City of Rye Police Department is urging community members to seek help if they or someone they know is struggling with emotional distress.
