I Love NY recently compiled a list of the best winter hikes in the state. Three Hudson Valley locales made the cut, being recognized for their winding routes, their wildlife, and their overall scenery.

The Hudson Valley trails that made the list are as follows:

  • Silver Mine Lake Trail, Harriman State Park : Nestled away about 30 miles north of New York City is Harriman State Park, where you’ll find the Silver Mine Lake Trail. This trail is renowned for its trailhead, which is an abandoned ski area. The hike is more leisurely than strenuous, making Silver Mine Lake Trail a fantastic way to reach the summit of Black Mountain and enjoy spectacular views of the city skyline.Harriman State Park is the second largest state park in New York, with 46,613 acres, 3 beaches, 31 lakes, and upwards of 200 miles of hiking trails. Once you scale Silver Mine Lake Trail and reach the summit of Black Mountain, you’ll have plenty of other nature hikes to choose from.
  • Bear Mountain State Park : West of the Hudson River, you’ll find the more than 5,000 acres of scenic mountain trails that have come to be known as Bear Mountain State Park. From trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels to forests, waterfalls, and breathtaking mountaintop sights, Bear Mountain State Park has it all. It’s also only a short drive from the city, making for maximum convenience. You can even bring along your canine companion!
  • Mohonk Mountain House : Located on the scenic and breathtaking Lake Mohonk, Mohonk Mountain House is just 90 miles north of New York City. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1986 and sits directly adjacent to the Mohonk Preserve, which features a whopping 7,000 acres of mountainous terrain as well as 40 miles of hiking trails winding through forests, streams, cliffs, ponds and more.
