LARCHMONT, N. Y. Children showed of their patriotism on Tuesday afternoon by parading around the Larchmont Public Library in red, white and blue hates yelling, Happy Fourth of July, to those in the library.
I like the Fourth of July because of the fireworks. They go boom, said Sofia Rosenbaum, 7, of Larchmont.
The Burchell Childrens Room hosted the event in which children were invited to listen to a story, make an Independence Day hat and then participate in the parade. The children used paper, ribbon, pipe cleaners and tissue paper to make their hats.
Any chance to be creative and do an arts and crafts project is great. I always love and try to bring that to story time, said Childrens Librarian Christine Hollings. Arts, music and a parade, whats better than that?
Hollings read Hats Off for the Fourth of July, to the children first. The book was about a Fourth of July parade in Chatham, Mass. and was written by Harriet Ziefert.
After spending about 20 minutes constructing hats, 4 out of the 15 children marched around the library. Hollings said the Burchell Childrens Room enjoys doing parades with the children and the tradition was fun.
