Woman Slashed In Unprovoked Assault On Hudson Valley Street, Police Say

Police in Dutchess County are investigating an early morning assault that left a 22-year-old woman with multiple injuries. 

The assault happened near the intersection of Church Street and South Cherry Street in Poughkeepsie, police said.

The incident occurred just after 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, near the intersection of Church Street and South Cherry Street, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department said on Sunday, June 15. 

Officers responding to a 911 call found the victim suffering from cuts to her forehead and arm. She told police she had been walking with friends on South Cherry Street when an unknown man approached and assaulted her without warning, then fled down Church Street.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not described as life-threatening.

Crime Scene Technicians recovered evidence at the scene, and the investigation remains active.
