Woman Rescued After Car Plunges Down Embankment In Katonah

Firefighters had to use a rope system to save a woman from her car after it crashed down a steep embankment in Westchester.

The one-car crash happened on Saturday, March 8, at around 8 p.m., when a vehicle plunged down an embankment off of Route 35 near Mount Holly Road in Katonah, according to the Katonah Fire Department. 

Firefighters arrived to find the vehicle off the roadway and had to deploy a low-angle rope system to reach the driver safely, the department said.

Rescue crews worked to free the trapped driver, who was found conscious, and then carefully brought her up the hill to a waiting ambulance for medical treatment.

The incident led to an extensive police investigation, keeping Route 35 closed for several hours.

More information on the extent of the driver's injuries was not immediately available.
