The arrests followed a search warrant execution on Thursday, April 3, at a Poughkeepsie home on North White Street that had been the focus of a multi-agency narcotics probe, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force announced on Friday, April 4.
Before the operation, residents in the neighborhood had alerted police to ongoing drug sales and expressed fears for their safety due to the high volume of daily activity from suspected dealers, authorities said.
According to the Task Force, undercover agents made controlled buys from Jeremyah Newton, 18, at the residence and nearby locations, prompting the swift raid led by the Drug Task Force, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Emergency Services Unit (SWAT), and the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit.
During the search, investigators recovered narcotics packaged for sale, digital scales, packaging materials, and cash.
Five suspects were arrested and arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court on multiple felony drug charges, authorities said:
- Jeremyah Newton, 18, was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (intent to sell and weight-based) and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is being held on $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $240,000 partially secured bond. Additional charges are pending;
- Jaishaun Watterson-Suarez, 20, faces two felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded to jail without bail on an unrelated matter and received nominal bail of $1 for the drug charges;
- Jabari Gordon, 26, faces the same two felony charges as Newton and Suarez. He is being held on $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $240,000 partially secured bond;
- Nicholas Brown, 28, also faces two felony drug charges and was wanted by city police on unrelated misdemeanor charges. He was released after arraignment as required by state law;
- Shawn Magliocchino was similarly charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and is being held on $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $240,000 partially secured bond at 10 percent;
The Task Force credited the rapid response and community cooperation for helping dismantle what they described as a dangerous drug hub.
