John Jay Rides Three-game Win Streak Into Thursday

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- Horace Greeley and John Jay-Cross River enter their pivotal Class A football game Thursday, 6 p.m., off of different results. The host Indians (3-1) are riding a three-game winning streak. Their latest victory was a 27-24 overtime verdict over Harrison. The Indians rallied from a 21-7 deficit in the second half and won it when Danny Caiola’s second effort, after he appeared to be stopped at the 2-yard line, thrust him into the end zone. Quarterback Tyler Keech had another excellent game, running for and also passing for 114 yards. Keech had two touchdown runs and threw for a score. John Jay’s defense stifled Harrison in the second half and overtime. Horace Greeley (3-1) was rolling after three weeks, but the Quakers were halted last week by Rye, 26-7. Quarterback Justin Ciero was limited to a season-low 31 yards rushing by the Garnets. The winner of this game will improve to 4-1 and possibly secure the second seed in the Section 1 Class A Championships behind Poughkeepsie, should the Pioneers close out the regular season undefeated.
