LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- Meadow Pond Elementary School's Parent Teacher Association raised more than $1,000 recently during the inaugural Max's Mighty Pumpkin Race, event organizers said.

The race, which took place at the elementary school on Smith Ridge Road, allowed parents and students alike to participate in a 5K run/walk and a 1-mile fun run.

"It was an extremely successful event for the PTA and brought out more than 100 people in very chilly temperatures," said Joanne Hasko, who co-directed the event along with Rebekah Habinowski. "We hope that this will become a tradition that continues for many years."

Money raised during the Sunday race -- named after the school's mascot, Max the Moose -- will go toward future educational enrichment opportunities, Hasko said.

The top race finishers are:
