CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- The committee examining the re-use of the shuttered Lewisboro Elementary School is looking to a closed school in Yorktown for an example, according to an update from Interim Superintendent John Goetz.

Goetz, a member of the Lewisboro Elementary School Utilization Committee, said Assistant Superintendent for Business Michael Jumper and Director of Facilities Paul Christensen visited the school and met with a real estate company employee who worked with Yorktown on reusing its French Hill school.

The real estate person will address the committee at a future meeting, according to Goetz, where price-per-square-foot rental rates also will be a topic.

Committee members also will take a trip to French Hill, which Yorktown's district offered to multiple tenants, according to Goetz. The trip will follow the committee's February meeting, he said.

“We’re into the nitty gritty now," Goetz said.

Goetz gave his update to the board at its Jan. 8 meeting.

French Hill was shuttered prior to the 2010-11 school year due to declining enrollment and was fully rented out in 2012, Daily Voice previously reported.

Lewisboro Elementary School was closed last summer -- falling enrollment was cited -- despite arguments from parents that it wasn't necessary to do so, according to Daily Voice and other local media reports.
