CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- John Jay High School senior Christopher Holze was honored with a BOCES Student of Distinction Award, which was presented to him by Tech Center Principal Jim Bellucci at a Katonah-Lewisboro Board of Education meeting on Feb. 11.

At the award ceremony, Bellucci described Holze as a caring, conscientious individual and a stand up student.

“He looks out for his peers and his teachers, and this recognition is a measure of that,” Bellucci said. “I’ve seen Chris grow over the past two years and it’s been a pleasure. He is a well-rounded renaissance person and we are proud to work with him.”

To celebrate his achievements, Holze was awarded a medal of honor and a certificate in recognition of his “outstanding leadership, skills, academic progress and community spirit.”

“The [Urban Forestry] program has given Chris a lot of encouragement, and a lot of guidance and choices,” said Holze’s mother, Jennifer Holze, who accompanied her son to the ceremony. “He just loves it. That’s the great thing about BOCES - it gives students a lot of opportunities to explore and see what they want to do with their future.”

Holze notes that his friends made a large impact on his decision to join the Urban Forestry program. After spending a summer working alongside many of them in the field, he knew he wanted to continue to learn more about being an arborist.

After graduation, Holze hopes to work with heavy equipment and attend college to study construction management.
