Westchester County legislators also were up for re-election. Several towns had local propositions on their ballots.

Towns and Villages
Across Westchester, Democrats enjoy control of most municipalities. In fact, registered Democratic voters outnumber Republican voters by 317,000 to 134,000 in Westchester County. However, Republican control of town boards remains strong in Harrison and Mount Pleasant. Both of those towns have popular Republican supervisors -- Ronald Belmont and Carl Fugenzi Jr., respectively -- and only one town board member is a Democrat, despite both towns having a majority of registered Democrats.
Also on the ballot in Ossining and Mount Pleasant were propositions to convert some elective jobs into appointed positions, as reported here by Daily Voice Plus. Mount Kisco voters were asked to approve a $14.25 million bond issue for firehouse additions and renovations.
In Yorktown, Republicans hoped to take back the Yorktown supervisor seat from one-term incumbent Ilan Gilbert with a challenge from Republican Matt Slater.
In Greenburgh, Supervisor Paul Feiner faced his first contested November election since 2007 from independent candidate Lucas Cioffi of the Greenburgh Party. In-depth Daily Voice Plus coverage of that race can be found by clicking here as well as here.
.In the village of Mamaroneck, incumbent Mayor Thomas Murphy, a Democrat, is being challenged by former Mayor Norman Rosenblum, who is running on the Conservative and Friendly Village Party ballot lines.
Many town and village races were uncontested
City Elections
There were contested races for mayor in Westchester’s cities: Peekskill, Yonkers, New Rochelle and Mount Vernon. Democrats are heavily favored based on voter registration. Well-known incumbents ran in Yonkers and New Rochelle.
Mount Vernon has a contested three-way race after the stormy resignation of Mayor Richard Thomas. Running there are Republican Andre Wallace, Democrat Shawyn Patterson-Howard and Conservative Rosemarie M. Jarosz.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer and U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel were among the high-profile Democrats who endorsed Patterson-Howard.
Westchester Board of Legislators
All 17 seats on the county Board of Legislators were up for re-election on Tuesday, however, 11 of the races were uncontested.
Democrats held a 13-4 majority going into Election Day.
Expect a slight shift of political clout on the board after the retirements of two longtime, popular legislators: former Republican leader John Testa of Peekskill and former county board Chairman Michael Kaplowitz, a Democrat from Somers.
