A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Carmel.

A 44-year-old man was struck and killed while walking along Old Route 6 in Putnam County.

The man, an unidentified Patterson resident, was hit about 7:06 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, in the vicinity of Spins Bowl in Carmel by a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, said Carmel Police.

The driver of the vehicle was a 37-year-old male from Stormville, police said.

Carmel Police, Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies, Emstar Paramedics, Carmel Ambulance and Carmel FD all responded to the scene.

The man was transported to Putnam Hospital Center and then later transferred to Westchester Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries. 

The victim was pronounced dead at 2:22 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 10, police said.

The operator of the vehicle was cited for having an expired inspection. He was also tested at the scene and displayed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment, Watterson said.

Carmel Police were assisted by members of the Putnam County Accident Reconstruction Team with the accident investigation and reconstruction.

The accident investigation is still ongoing.
