LEWISBORO, N.Y. Lewisboro police had to intervene in two alleged domestic disputes this past week involving custody issues.
On Wednesday, a South Salem man came to Lewisboro police headquarters and complained his ex-wife would not allow his daughter to join him for the holiday, police said. The man showed police a divorce agreement that stated that on even years (such as 2012) he was to have custody of his daughter. Officers attempted to call the ex-wife and explain the mandates of the court order but no one answered the phone, police said. Police left a message, but the call was not returned. The man told police he did not want the police to go with him to his ex-wifes residence to enforce the court order in person to avoid causing his daughter any anxiety, police said. He requested the incident be filed in a police report.
The following day, police were called to the North County Shopping Center in Goldens Bridge for a reported child custody dispute in the parking lot. Officers found three people in the parking lot who pointed out a woman standing near the entrance holding a child. One of the three people said he was the childs father and the woman holding the child was his girlfriend, police said. The man indicated he had custody of his son, as well as an order of protection against the girlfriend, police said.
Officers spoke to the woman, who said she came to the shopping center to meet with the childs father and was handed the order a protection, police said. A struggle ensured over the child, at which time the father relented for the safety of the boy, police said. Police convinced the woman to hand the child over to the father and that she could take up her concerns at a court hearing on the matter that was scheduled for Thursday, police said.
