She graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1953 and was briefly employed by Ginn & Company in Boston as a Technical Editor. She married Donald T. Hazard in 1954 and next worked as a Graphic Designer/Artist for a Concord, NH-based advertising firm.

Originally trained as a musician, Mrs. Hazard also studied oil painting with Amy Jones and for a time had several shows in New York and Vermont. She began to write historical fiction in 1978. She is survived by her three sons Steven Emerson of Newburyport, MA (Loree), David Lincoln of New Canaan, CT (Stephanie), and Scott Winslow also of New Canaan, CT (Lucy), as well as one granddaughter and three grandsons. She is predeceased by her husband Donald and her two sisters Pauline McGuire of Hoosick Falls, NY and Carolyn Clark of Pittsford, NY.

Mrs. Hazard wrote that she was most proud of being Concertmaster of the Massachusetts All-State Orchestra in Symphony Hall in Boston and having a successful career as an artist and writer, which was her greatest love besides her husband, three sons and their wives.

She loved New England and in particular Cape Cod, which she visited every year for most of her life. Her other loves included her family, reading and music.

There will be no visiting hours; she will be interred in Chappaqua. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at First Congregational Church of Chappaqua on Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. Friends are asked to say a prayer for her in the church of their choice.
