LEWISBORO, N.Y. A South Salem teen was arrested Thursday morning and charged with several felonies after leading Lewisboro police and state police on a car chase through three different communities before it ended on Interstate 684 in North Salem.
At around 8:40 a.m. Thursday, state police received a report from an unidentified caller of an erratic driver on Rt. 121 in Cross River. The vehicle was spotted by a Lewisboro police officer who confirmed the car had been stolen out of Mt. Kisco earlier Thursday morning.
Lewisboro police continued following the vehicle into North Salem and were joined by state police out of the Somers barracks with assistance from the North Salem Police Department.
Police continued to follow the car onto southbound I-684 at exit 8 and were finally able to stop the vehicle by boxing it in.
After a brief struggle with police, Matthew E. Brodoff, 19, of South Salem, was placed in custody.
During the pursuit, two state police vehicles were struck by Brodoff and sustained damage. The vehicle being pursued, a 2002 Suburu Legacy, sustained front end damage that caused a fire within the engine compartment, but police were able to extinguish it.
State police said that Trooper Thomas Libretti and Brodoff both sustained minor injuries as a result of Brodoff resisting arrest. Libretti and Brodoff were treated at Northern Westchester Hospital and released.
Brodoff was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, an E felony; assault in the second degree, a D felony, and numerous vehicle and traffic violations with additional criminal charges pending.
Brodoff was arraigned before Town of Somers Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail with no bail. He is scheduled to reappear in Lewisboro Court on March 5.
