LEWISBORO, N.Y. Lewisboro and state police are investigating what appears to be a burglary at a home on West Lane in South Salem.
Police were called to the scene on Friday night by a neighbor who told officers that she had been seeing people coming and going from the house at all hours of the night and day. The neighbor said she believed the home was in foreclosure and that no one should be there, but police could not verify the foreclosure at the time.
Police went to the home and discovered that the front door was unlocked. Officers entered the home and discovered it to be in total disarray. They said every room in the house suffered from extensive damage. State police were summoned to the scene and the investigation was turned over to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).
The following items were also reported by the Lewisboro police:
Brush Fire: Police were called to a brush fire on Wednesday, April 4, at 2:10 p.m. on Route 22 in Goldens Bridge approximately 1,000 feet north of the Bedford Professional Building. Upon arrival, officers discovered the Katonah and Goldens Bridge fire departments were on the scene extinguishing the flames with their pumper trucks. The fire appeared to include not just brush but construction materials and discarded tree limbs as well. Investigators could not determine if the fire was started deliberately or by a cigarette tossed from a moving vehicle. There was no structure damage to the buildings on the property.
Fender Bender: On Friday, police were dispatched to the North County Shopping Center in Goldens Bridge for a two-car accident. Both cars were backing out of their parking spaces at the same time and collided, police said. There were no injuries or summonses issued.
Property Destroyed: On Sunday, a resident on Adams Hill Road in Cross River reported that earlier in the week he had observed someone damage two signs on his property a decorative address sign and an aluminum alarm company sign. The signs were pulled out of the ground and thrown. He also reported that a week later someone had thrown a beer bottle from a car onto his driveway, where it broke. The homeowner said he heard the passing vehicle at 1:15 on Sunday morning. Police checked the area and no further damage was discovered. The man was not aware of any possible suspects and police advised him to call them again if there are any further neighborhood disturbances.
