Lewisboro Dems, GOP to Play Softball for Charity

LEWISBORO N.Y. – Lewisboro Town Board member Frank Kelly’s challenge on behalf of the Republican Town Committee to the Democratic Town Committee to play a charity softball game that would benefit the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps has been accepted.

The game has been scheduled for June 30 – Fireworks in the Park Day – at 11 a.m. on Onatru Farm Field 4.

Money will be raised by sponsoring players. Owners and managers can sponsor players to play for their team at $10 per inning or as agreed. Sponsored players can play no more than three innings and only two innings in any one position.

“The concept is to get as much public involvement as possible,” Kelly said. “You can sponsor a designated hitter, or a base runner or anything else you can think of.”

Kelly said that in recognizing “the political vagaries of life,” every third inning, running the base path will be reversed. Instead of first to second to third to home, runners will have to run from third to second to first to home.

“By public acclamation from the stands, any ‘right-leaning’ batter can be prevailed upon to bat lefty and any ‘left-leaning’ batter can be prevailed upon to bat righty, but only once per game,” Kelly said.

Town Justice Marc Seedorf has agreed to umpire and the entire court staff has been invited to umpire various portions of the game.

Anyone willing to donate or be sponsored can play on either team.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the pavilion and proceeds will to go to the ambulance corps. Organizers are looking for donations, sponsorships and volunteers to cook.
