A math teacher has been arrested for possession of child pornography and voyeurism that took place at his home following a six-month investigation.

Gregory Kelly, 35, of Stamford, a teacher at Cloonan School, was arrested on Friday, Feb. 7, following an investigation initiated by a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

According to Conklin, after receiving the tip in August 2019, that images of child pornography originating from Stamford had been discovered, the department's special unit traced the associated IP addresses to a home on Bend of River Lane and identified Kelly as the main suspect.

As soon as the department found that Kelly was a teacher in Stamford, the Stamford Board of Education was notified of the investigation.

Kelly was immediately put on administrative leave and has not been back to the school this year, Cloonan School Principal David Tate said in an email to parents.

"We thank the Stamford PD for their timely action in alerting us of the investigation and when the arrest was imminent," he added.

Officers were able to obtain a warrant and executed the warrant on Aug. 21, 2019, Conklin said.

Investigators seized approximately 30 digital devices, and with help of various agencies, including the FBI, more than 150 images of child pornography were found, Conklin said.

In addition, there were voyeuristic videos of two teenage female victims. Investigators identified the teenage victims after an extensive search of social media. The acts of voyeurism were committed at Kelly’s home and a home of a victim.

Kelly was charged with six counts of child pornography, and two counts of voyeurism. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Tate said this type of incident is a good time for parents to remind their children of their personal safety.

"Such a profoundly disturbing situation may well create issues of trust for you or your child," he said. "It is difficult to comprehend how someone in a position of trust could betray that trust. As always, our school counselors and mental health staff are available to any child in need of support."

Anyone with additional information regarding Kelly is asked to contact the Stamford Police SIJO Unit at 203-977-4639.
