During his daily COVID-19 briefing, Westchester County Executive announced that 34,000 residents have tested positive for the virus, up 46 overnight, though he noted: “the numbers have been decreasing dramatically.”

There are currently 951 active COVID-19 cases, down from 1,200 last week, and 1,600 two weeks ago.

Latimer noted that at its peak, one in three Westchester residents tested positive for COVID-19, while now only 20 percent of the 186,561 residents tested have been positive for the virus.

Since the pandemic broke out in the Hudson Valley 100 days ago, there have been 1,395 COVID-19-related deaths.

“It’s a happy sign that the spread of the virus has not increased over this course of time,” Latimer said. “We had a landmark day on Saturday, where we lost no one. Every death is a tragedy, but we’re averaging less than five fatalities a night over the past few nights.

“So countywide, whatever actions we’re taking, as we head into Phase 2, all the steps we’ve been taking have not caused the virus to spread.”

Phase 2 includes office-based jobs, real estate, barbershops, salons, outdoor dining, and expanded retail services.
