Letter: Lewisboro Memorial Day Fair a Huge Success

To the Editor:

This year’s Memorial Day Fair and Races in South Salem was a huge success, especially if success means great fun, food, fellowship, music and celebration for the entire community.

The event is South Salem Presbyterian Church’s major fundraiser, and we are extremely grateful for all who came, ran, enjoyed the fair and helped us continue to be a vital part of this community. The members of SSPC worked tirelessly for months preparing for the events. Incredible work goes into the planning, purchasing, promoting and running of the fair and races. It is a labor of love and the church’s gift, bringing together the community each Memorial Day in such a wonderful way.

Still, it takes more than simply our members to put on a fair. Many people in the town gave tirelessly as well, working long hours planning, promoting, sponsoring and setting things up. It was truly a community event, put on by the community.

I would like to extend a special thanks to those who helped make this happen: PepsiCo.; race sponsors, Le Chateau, St. John’s and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Peter Giles, PR guru and organizer extraordinaire of people and ideas; Tom Gossett, for the stage and setup, which was done with great intentionality and care; Dean Travalino, for helping us plan and sponsor this event; James Travalino, for working all weekend; Sue Vales (Horse and Hound) for food, sponsorship and being the best neighbor a church could have; those who contributed to our silent auction, especially Linda Calvert, Mary Jane Newman and Frank DeCicco of DeCicco Family Markets; and the wonderful musicians, who gave us so much of their time and great talent to launch the first Memorial Day Music Festival in town. Many others need to be thanked and I know I have missed important people, and for that I apologize.

Finally, I want the Town of Lewisboro to know that I’m so deeply thankful for your support; you make this what it is. My wife, Linda, and I are so thankful to have come to a place where the community can pull together with the local church and make something like this happen. And there’s more to come!
