Thousands Shrug Off Cold, Bask In Sun At Wappingers Falls St. Pat's Parade

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - On a crisp, sunshine-filled afternoon in Wappingers Falls, the crowd may have been smaller than last year, but the ones who came out didn't seem to mind the cold at Saturday's 22nd annual Dutchess County St. Patrick's Day Parade in Wappingers Falls.

Thousands lined the streets along the parade route that snaked its way through the village, eventually landing at Mesler Park.

Dozens of area fire and police departments, marching bands, community floats and groups made their way along the route as the crowd - many wearing their St. Patrick's Day green - soaked it all up.

The parade's 2017 Grand Marshal was Eileen McDonald Sassmann, a fourth-generation member of the Gilmore clan in the village.

"The cold may have kept some people away," one Wappingers Falls Police Officer told Daily Voice. "But a lot of people still came out, and seem to be enjoying the parade. It's still a great day for a parade."
