PURCHASE, N.Y. –Three Manhattanville College students helped keep the International Bazaar tradition going this past spring after it was in jeopardy of being canceled.
The 37th Annual International Bazaar was held on March 21 thanks in part to Vice President of Undergraduate Enrollment Management Nikhil Kumar and Director of Admissions Joe Cosentino, who decided to step in as the new advisers after Director of International Services L.A. Adams stepped down.
The new advisers, along with members of the International Student Organization – sophomores Melanie Santos, Gary Chou, and Dylan Rich – worked together to keep the almost 40-year-old tradition alive.
The event celebrating cultural diversity was held in the internationally decorated East Room. Foreign flags, international food and student performances led up to the Manhattanville Fashion Show where traditional garb from students’ countries were showcased. Nearly 600 attended the event.
Kumar and Cosentino gave the students an opportunity to run the entire planning process, including everything from the budget to choosing the food and theme.
“Events of this magnitude bring students together,” said Chou, an international student from Taiwan. “It generates school spirit and makes students want to participate.”
Manhattanville College was ranked 12th on Newsweek Daily Beast’s “Best School for Foreign Students” in 2012.
