HARRISON, N.Y. -- Harrison Avenue Elementary students raised more than $7,000 for the American Heart Association during the school's Jump Rope for Heart event, the district said Wednesday.
Physical education teachers Rita Beardsley and Louis Kail supervised the more than 400 students who did 40 minutes of jump roping.
The students used Chinese Jump Ropes, Pogo Sticks and jump bands.
The Harrison Avenue PTA supplied fruit stations to give the students extra energy and hydration while instilling the value of healthy snacks, the district said.
Harrison Avenue has partnered with the American Heart Association for more than a decade. Students this year students were encouraged to write or speak in memory or recognition of someone they knew who was affected by heart related issues.
