HARRISON, N.Y. -- Once again, I had the pleasure of marching with the Harrison High School Band on Thursday as they participated in New York City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The weather was balmy and the crowd’s excitement and enthusiasm created a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

This year’s celebration included marching bands, pipe bands and bag pipes. Community organizations, cultural associations and political leaders took part, as well. This parade does a great job of promoting civic pride in our metropolitan community. I am proud of our high school students for adding to this sentiment. They did an outstanding job representing Harrison and they should be commended.

The Harrison Public Library has done exceptionally well in expanding the use of the new and improved space. Our Library Director, Galina Chernykh, and her staff, continue to develop ideas for new programming. The library offers homebound services for residents who are unable to visit the library due to disability. Patrons may call the library to have books, audio-books, or compact discs delivered to their home. Please contact the librarian at 914-835-0324 if you would like to join this program or have any questions about this service.

I would like to extend my congratulations to all involved in the Louis M. Klein Middle School performance of "Grease." It was with great pleasure that I had the opportunity to catch the show. It was an exciting event and I am so glad I was able to attend. The music and the choreography were exceptional. The spirited cast complemented the lively music and the talent was enjoyed by all. The hard work and devotion of the students, director and technical crew was apparent and I would like to recognize them for their dedication. I think I can speak on behalf of the audience when I say that we all thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Please take note of the sanitation schedule change for the week of March 21:

Friday, March 25 is a holiday and Town Hall will be closed.

Garbage and/or recycling normally collected on Friday, March 25 will be collected on Thursday, March 24.

Garbage and/or recycling normally collected on Thursday, March 24 will be collected on Wednesday March 23.

There will be no bulk trash collection on Wednesday, March 23. Please note, curbside brush collection will occur during the week of March 21.

Please place your cut and tied brush, curbside, by the evening of Sunday, March 20. As this is a Holiday week, brush will be collected from Monday through Thursday only.

Once the Highway Department has cleared a neighborhood they will not return until next month.

In closing, as the winter season comes to an end, our highway crews continue to repair our municipal roadways. I am asking residents to please report pothole locations to our DPW office at 914-670-3128. Targeting areas, that are hardest hit, will expedite the process and help to restore our community’s infrastructure.
