Harrison Baseball/Softball Donates to Scholarships

HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison Baseball and Softball Booster Clubs donated over $1,100 to the David Basso Scholarship Fund.

The Harrison Board of Education approved the donation, plus one for $344 to the same scholarship from employees at the Harrison Avenue School Elementary School. The BOE also accepted a donation from the Harrison Avenue School PTA for $886 to sponsor a fourth-grade trip to Albany on June 8. The PTA at the elementary school also donated $447 to sponsor an end-of-year picnic for the school’s third-graders on June 15.

Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty gave the school district $1,000 to be distributed equally among scholarships for four students at Harrison High School, both male and female. The scholarships will be given out June 7 at the annual Senior Sports Banquet. Residents Zachary and Cleo Marantis donated $300 for the Dean Marantis Scholarship Fund.

Other donations include $652 from the PTA at Samuel J. Preston School for two field trips: to the Westchester County legislature and to a school play at Harrison Avenue School. Harrison Little League made a $200 donation to the high school band for its trip to Pearl Harbor in December.

Other news from the May 2 BOE meeting:

- The board approved a field trip to Boston on June 28 for high school students to visit college campuses;

- Approved paying $41,472 to the school district in Greenburgh for health services provided to 49 students who live in Harrison;

- Approved a contract with Double Image Sounds & Entertainment for DJ services for the high school prom. The prom will be May 24 at the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club;

- Voted to make Josephine Occhipinti an elementary school teacher on a probationary basis and hired Johanna Schroeder as a substitute teacher at Louis M. Klein Middle School.
