At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, Stamford Police officers responded to the area of 617 Webbs Hill Rd. off Long Ridge Road on the report of a single-vehicle crash where the vehicle was reported to be rolled over and a person was in the street bleeding.
Officers arrived to find the vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, lying on its side. The operator of the vehicle, who was identified as Donald Berrios-Ruiz, an 18-year-old Stamford resident, was outside of the vehicle. He did not appear to have suffered any major injuries.
The passenger of the vehicle, a 14-year-old Stamford resident, was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. He was initially transported to Stamford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but his medical condition continued to decline. He was later transported by helicopter to Yale-New Haven hospital in critical condition.
The initial on-scene investigation revealed that speed may have been a factor in the crash, police said.
