Yonkers resident Kevin Jones, has been arrested and charged with three counts of felony burglaries after he allegedly broke into two Dunkin’ Donuts and a Subway restaurant last week.

Officers from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to the Dunkin’ Donuts on North Broadway shortly after 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, after a suspect smashed through the glass door and stole approximately $600 in cash from the store’s register before taking off.

The estimated damage to the location was estimated to be approximately $20,000 to make reparations.

Later that morning, at approximately 3:45 a.m., officers were again dispatched to Subway on Tuckahoe Road where a suspect again smashed through a front door, though he was unable to locate any cash before fleeing the scene.

Two days later, on Saturday, May 18, officers responded to the Dunkin’ Donuts on Central Park Avenue shortly after 3:45 a.m., when a front door was again smashed and $250 was taken from a register. The estimated cost for the reparations of the second location is $2,200.

According to police investigators, the suspects allegedly would throw rocks or kick door and window glass in order to smash the same and force unlawful entry. Once inside the buildings, they would damage the cash registers and remove the drawers including any currency before fleeing the scene.

Police said that during Thursday morning’s events, they utilized the services of an Uber driver to travel between locations. Several cash drawers were recovered as evidence, having been discarded along the route. Investigators immediately connected all three incidents and quickly identified Jones as a person of interest.

A detail including members from the Major Case Squad and Pattern Crimes Task Force set out to locate Jones and apprehended him early on Tuesday, May 21, without incident; upon questioning, Jones admitted to the crimes.

Jones, was arrested and scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday afternoon.

“The safety of our residents and communities is a top priority for the Yonkers Police Department, and that includes our business community,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner stated. “Let this arrest be a warning to those who would prey on our hardworking business owners, that you will be arrested and held accountable for your crimes. I applaud the efforts of our Police Officers and Detectives in quickly closing-out these three cases.”
