PURCHASE, N.Y. A 24-year-old man from Danbury, Conn., was taken to Greenwich Hospital Tuesday after he fell asleep at the wheel on Interstate 684 and his vehicle crashed.
State Trooper L. Charles said that the man was heading northbound on I-684 when he fell asleep causing his Volkswagen to hit the guard rail and spin around at mile marker 3.4. Charles said the call came in at 10:04 a.m. Charles said that the man was coming from a long trip and was tired, adding that no alcohol or drugs was involved in the accident. He was not injured but taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The Purchase Fire Department responded to the scene as well to check on the man.
