Man Facing Charges For Involvement In Western Mass Shooting

A Western Mass man is facing numerous charges for his alleged involvement in a shooting that left one person seriously injured.

Edgar Gomez-Diaz, age 36, of Springfield, was arrested on Tuesday, May 4, after an officer heard gunshots in the area of Spring and Pearl Streets and located a man who was shot on Spring Street around 12:20 p.m., said Springfield Police Spokesman Ryan Walsh.

Following an investigation under the direction of Captain Trent Duda, detectives identified Gomez-Diaz and arrested him around 4:20 p.m. near the intersection of Pearl and Bridge Streets, Walsh said.

He was charged with: 

  • Firearm-armed assault to murder
  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
  • Malicious destruction of property less than $1,200

The victim is in serious condition at Baystate Medical Center.
