Long Island Woman Left Scene Of Crash That Seriously Injured Man, Police Say

A Long Island woman has been charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 in Copiague, Suffolk County Police said.

Sagrario Lopez-Escobar, 67, of Copiague, was driving a 2005 Toyota Sequoia westbound on 43rd Street, near Atlantic Street, when the vehicle struck an adult man walking in the roadway at approximately 10:30 p.m. Lopez-Escobar left the scene in the Sequoia.

The victim, who has yet to be identified by police, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries.

Lopez-Escobar was apprehended and arrested a short time later at her residence, police said. The Sequoia was impounded. 

First Squad detectives charged Lopez-Escobar with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury. She was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, Oct. 6.
