Colette Schulz, 86, Of Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. – Colette Schulz of Harrison died Sept. 15 at her home after a prolonged illness. She was 86. 

Schulz was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Paris, France. She was married to Dr. Helmut W. Schulz, who died in 2006. She grew up in Paris, where she spent her young adulthood during the German occupation. She moved to the U.S. in 1947 and settled in Charleston, W.V.

She married Hap Schulz in March of 1954. She received her French baccalaureate in 1944 and a B.A. from Columbia University in art history in 1981. Her family said that her life was filled with love of family, friends and many activities into which she poured her heart, including more than 20 years at The Cloisters in New York City. 

Schulz was also active in women's sailing at Larchmont Yacht Club. A longtime member of Christ's Church in Rye, she was active in the Altar Guild and Sunday school. 

She is survived by two sisters in France; four sons, Raymond, of San Mateo, Calif., Roland, of Harrison, Robert, of Stamford, Conn., and Thomas, of New York City; a daughter, Caroline Chechen, of Otisville, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by a child, Francis, in 1960. 

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 10 at Christ's Church in Rye. Condolences and inquiries may be sent to
