Road Named After Purchase War Hero

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The entrance to Purchase College on Route 120 (Anderson Hill Road) will be renamed after former Purchase resident U.S. Army Specialist Anthony N. Kalladeen, who lost his life fighting in Iraq in 2005.

A joint bill introduced by Assemblyman Robert Castelli and State Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer is now waiting for the signature of Gov. Andrew Cuomo after it passed both houses.

“I have great respect for the men and women who have fought to protect our cherished way of life in the Global War on Terrorism,” said Castelli, a Vietnam veteran. “Dedicating this portion of Route 120 to him is just a small way of thanking him and his families for their sacrifice. This legislation allows Specialist Anthony N. Kalladeen and to be remembered and honored daily for their contributions to the nation and community they loved.”

Once approved by the governor, the road will be called “Specialist Anthony N. Kalladeen Memorial Highway.” Kalladeen attended Purchase College before he was deployed with the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment to fight in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Kalladeen, who was 26 at the time of his death, was killed Aug. 8, 2005 when his vehicle was ambushed by the enemy. Purchase College previously dedicated a space in a residence hall as “Kalladeen’s Corner.”
