HARRISON, N.Y. - For the holiday season, Purchase Elementary School's Caring Kids Club will be collecting toys, socks, books and wrapping paper for an annual holiday drive to benefit local charities and families.
Wrapping paper donations will go towards the Children's Hope Chest, a grassroots organization in Purchase whose mission is to provide assistance to local charities.
During last month's Thanksgiving season, the club organized a large food drive, collecting non-perishable food to be organized into "care boxes" for eight families in Purchase. The school's faculty also collected financial donations to buy turkeys and pies for Thanksgiving meals.
The Caring Kids Club at Purchase Elementary has a lengthy history of community service, according to the Harrison School District. The group was started over 20 years ago and has since grown into a group of student projects to benefit local kids and families.
