HARRISON, N.Y. -- More than 3,100 people have signed a petition opposing a new gun store at the Harrison Mall.

One of the petition collectors said the first 1,200 names of local residents opposed to the new business were rounded up Wednesday night after this article about the new store appeared on Daily Voice.

The petition can be accessed by clicking here.

Louis Zacchio said he plans to open the shop, located at the rear of Harrison Mall, 261 Halstead Ave., in a week or two.

Zacchio's wife, Lisa, reacting to opposition to her husband's store, said: "It is the right of the people to circulate a petition, just as it is the right of a person to open a legitimate and legal business. That's what make our country great."

L&L Sports' nearest retail competition is in Mount Vernon and Elmsford. Other gun shops in the Hudson Valley are located in Carmel and Patterson, N.Y. More details on their store, which will sell optics and mounting hardware, can be found by clicking here.

In an earlier interview with Daily Voice. Zacchio recognizes that guns are a lightning rod for public debate due to escalating gun violence in America.

Zacchio has held state and federal licenses to sell firearms for 18 years. He's also a certified trainer.

Zacchio said is is committed to the safe use of firearms and has built a solid reputation as an expert. He welcomes anyone to call him at 914-835-4145 or ask him questions in person about his business practices as well as the safe use of firearms for sport or self-defense. .

Any gun leaving the store must be in its case and unloaded. Likewise, Zacchio said he plans to put up a sign saying no one can walk into his store unless their firearm is unloaded and in its case.
