Man Survives After Being Pulled From Burning Car On Bronx River Parkway

This story was updated at 12:30 p.m.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man has local police to thank for pulling him out of a burning car after he slammed into a tree on the Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers on Thursday, according to Westchester County police officials.

At about 2:45 am, the 35-year-old male was traveling northbound in a 2012 Acura on the Bronx River Parkway near Scarsdale Road when he lost control, crossed over the southbound lanes, went off the road and struck a tree.

Another motorist saw the crash and called 911. County police, Tuckahoe police and Yonkers police departments responded to the scene.

The driver was removed from the vehicle by Tuckahoe officers. A fire had broken out in the engine compartment of the vehicle and was extinguished by county police officers

The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Westchester Medical Center.

County police spokesman Kieran O'Leary said the man's injuries were due to the crash, not the fire, which did not spread beyond the engine compartment.

No condition has been listed for the man at this time.
