The incident happened on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 12:05 a.m. in Mineola, Nassau County Police said.

The victim, now identified as Joseph Harrison of Williston Park, was riding his bicycle southbound on Mineola Boulevard at Washington Avenue when he was struck by an unknown southbound vehicle, police said.

Harrison suffered a serious head injury and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by a staff physician.

It's unclear if the motorist fled the scene or was unaware of the crash.

Detectives are also attempting to identify and locate the vehicle involved. It is described as a 2006 -2008 Infinity, four-door SUV, light in color, possibly silver or gray, with front end damage.
