Harrison Student Writers Awarded for Literature

HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison's high school and Louise M. Klein Middle School showcased its student writers last week by awarding them for their work at a school assembly.

The event was funded by the Harrison Educational Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds projects for Harrison schools, according to Communications Officer of the Harrison School District Monica Miles. Students and faculty gathered at the middle school for a school-wide event last Friday where writers' best works in a variety of categories were submitted and recognized.

Stories were judged by former faculty members and executives and winners and honorable mention selections were chosen.

The chosen pieces were bound in a manuscript titled "Literature Molded by Kids." The LMK magazine was recognized as one of the top 15 out of 400 school magazines with a ranking of superior in New York.

Harrison High School compiled its own magazine and received an above average ranking. The ranking was from the National Council of Teachers of English for producing noteworthy literary magazines.

All students who submitted entries were recognized at the assembly. English teachers from the district submitted grant proposals to the HEF for the cost of the receptions and for printing the magazines that displayed the students' work.
