Harrison Board to Vote on Commerical Parking

HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison Town Board is being asked to authorize five commercial vehicle permits for the Purdy Street Parking Lot, which would be allow parking privileges from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m.  The board will discuss the matter at its next meeting on Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

If approved, the permits would be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Previously, the board voted unanimously on a new law that prohibits commercial vehicles from parking on residential streets from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. According to Town Clerk Jackie Greer, the board authorized the sale of 10 parking spots in the Purdy Street Lot for commercial vehicles lastt year. The Town Board amended that number to five spots to be sold this year.

According to the agenda for the Feb. 29 meeting, Harrison Public Works Commissioner Anthony Robinson is looking for the approval of the board to sell a Menzi Muck Excavator with trailer and attachments to the Township of Woodbridge, N.J. for $90,000. Robinson will also request that the board approve the 2012 department of public works capital budget.

Deputy Town Attorney Fred Castiglia is asking for the board to accept a settlement of $50,000 for damages to the West Harrison Firehouse and to have Supervisor Ron Belmont sign a Proof of Loss statement. According to a letter written by Sammy E. Smith of QBE Specialty Insurance, the actual damage is approximately $67,000.

Citizens will have a chance to speak at a public hearing about the rezoning of Grant and Oakland avenues.

The town/village board meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building, located a 1 Heineman Place. Prior to the meeting, the fire commissioners will meet at 6:45 p.m.

Also, the board of education's Feb. 29 meeting has been postponed until March 7 when it will meet at Louis M. Klein Middle School at 7:15 p.m.
