Manhattanville Alum Interns With AIDS/HIV Film

PURCHASE, N.Y. – A recent Manhattanville College alum served as a production intern over the summer for a documentary on HIV/AIDS, according to the Purchase-based college website.

Lisa-Marie Hunt, who graduated in May, worked on “The Social Cure”  in South Africa. The film focuses on “how social media and networking can work to spread positive behaviors in regards to HIV/AIDS in South Africa.”

She had to spread the word about the movie through social media and “help spread news about HIV/AIDS.”

In a recent interview with The Daily Voice, Manhattanville College President Jon Strauss stressed how dedicated his students are to service, which led Hunt to the project. She graduated with a B.A. in communications and film studies.

“It was helping people and it was the only thing I had seen that was like that,” she said in the press release. “This was a social message, service – to help a cause. In America we know so much about HIV/AIDS but I'm learning so much more about the cause since I've joined the project."

Meissa Hampton, who directed the documentary, “wrapped final stages of production” on Friday in Cape Town, South Africa, according to the film’s Facebook page.

The Social Cure was produced by One Pair of Shoes, which said in the press release that their “mission is to engage audiences with works that speak to their emotions, their intellect, and our era – works with the potential to affect positive social and cultural change.”

"The Social Cure" is set to be released Jan. 9, 2013.
